Privacy Policy
Pearly (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a weight, calorie, fasting and workout tracker published by H&Row STUDIO. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. By creating an account and using Pearly you agree to this policy.
Last updated: 28 July 2026
1. Who this policy is for
Pearly is intended for adults (and is not directed at children under the age of 13, or under 16 in the EEA/UK). We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
2. What we collect
2.1 Account information
You can use Pearly with a Google account or as a guest.
When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, Google profile photo (URL) and a unique user ID (UID). We use this only to create and secure your account and sync your data across your devices. We do not post anything to your Google account.
If you continue as a guest, no Google information is collected. We create an anonymous account identified only by a random user ID and an automatically assigned, random @handle. Guest data is tied to that session on this device and is not backed up or synced, and an inactive guest account is deleted automatically after 90 days (see §8). You can link a Google account any time from Settings to keep your data safe across devices.
2.2 Health & fitness data you enter
Everything you log is stored against your account: body weight and weight-goal history; height, month and year of birth, biological sex, body-fat percentage and activity level; food and calorie logs; fasting sessions; and workout logs. We use this data solely to run the app's features for you — history, charts, BMI, calorie targets, fasting timers and forecasts.
The setup health check. Before guidance features are offered, Pearly asks for your month and year of birth and asks whether any of a short list of health conditions applies to you. This decides whether the app offers you weight-loss targets, calorie deficits, fasting and weight challenges, or stays in tracking-only mode.
Your answers to the condition questions stay on the device you entered them on and are never uploaded. What is stored against your account is only the result: whether the check has been completed, whether guidance features are enabled for you (which reflects your age and your answers), and whether any condition applies at all, without recording which one. This is what lets the app avoid asking you the same questions again every time you sign in or move to a new phone. You can re-take the check at any time from You › Health check.
2.3 Community & social content
Pearly's community features are optional. If you use them, the content you create is visible to the specific people you share it with:
- your display name, @handle and profile photo are discoverable so friends can find and follow you;
- your posts, comments, cheers and your progress as percentages and streaks (never your exact weight) are shown to your approved followers, or to members of a private group or challenge you join.
Connections are approval-based, groups are private and invite-only, and you can keep all interaction within people you invite or approve.
You can also upload photos — a cover image for a group or challenge, or a photo attached to a post. Uploaded photos are stored in Cloud Storage for Firebase and are visible to the same people as the post, group or challenge they belong to.
To keep the community safe, every uploaded photo is scanned automatically by Google Cloud Vision (SafeSearch) before it appears. A photo flagged as explicit is deleted and never published, and repeated violations add a strike to your account; after five strikes the account can no longer post. We keep a minimal moderation record (your strike count) so that limit can be enforced. Guests (accounts that haven't signed in with Google) cannot upload photos.
2.4 App settings stored on your device
Your theme, measurement units, region preference and similar settings are stored locally on your device (not tied to your account).
2.5 Analytics, crash reports & push
To operate and improve the app we use Google Firebase services:
- Firebase Analytics records anonymous, aggregate usage events (e.g. that a meal was logged or a fast started — never what you ate or your health values); it may collect an app-instance identifier.
- Firebase Crashlytics collects crash and error diagnostics (device model, OS version, stack traces) so we can fix bugs.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging uses a push token to deliver the reminders (meal, fasting) and social notifications you opt into.
You can turn usage analytics and crash reporting off any time in Settings › Privacy — that stops collection at the source.
2.6 AI meal scanning (Anthropic)
When you use photo "snap" or the typed-dish estimate, the image or dish name is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic (the Claude API), to identify the food and estimate its nutrition. Anthropic processes the input to return a result and may retain inputs and outputs for a limited period (up to ~30 days under its standard API terms) unless a zero-retention agreement applies. Results are AI estimates, not medical or dietary advice. A small thumbnail is also saved to your own meal history (deleted when you delete that entry or your account).
2.7 Subscriptions and purchases
If you subscribe to Pearly Plus or Pearly Pro, the purchase itself is handled entirely by Google Play — we never see or store your payment details. To activate your plan, we store against your account: which plan you have, its renewal or expiry date, and the Google Play purchase token that lets us confirm the subscription with Google. Your remaining AI scan allowance is stored as a simple counter. All of this is deleted with your account.
2.8 What we do not collect
- We do not collect your precise or background location.
- We do not use advertising identifiers or show ads.
- We do not use marketing or ad-targeting SDKs, and we do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone.
3. Where your data is stored
Your account and logged data are stored using Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and — for photos you upload to the community — Cloud Storage for Firebase), held on Google's servers and protected by per-user security rules so that only you, signed in to your account, can read or write your data. Google processes this data on our behalf as a service provider; see Google's privacy policy.
4. Food search — Open Food Facts
When you search foods, Pearly queries the Open Food Facts database over the internet. Your search terms and your device's network request (including its IP address) are sent to Open Food Facts, and product images load directly from them. Open Food Facts is an independent non-profit database governed by its own privacy policy; its product data is available under the Open Database License (ODbL).
5. Sharing your data
We share your data only:
- with Google Firebase / Google Cloud, for hosting, authentication, sync, photo storage, automated image-safety scanning (Cloud Vision SafeSearch), analytics, crash reporting and notifications;
- with Anthropic, only the meal photo or dish name you scan, to return a nutrition estimate;
- with Open Food Facts, only the request needed to search foods;
- with the other users you choose — the community content in §2.3 is shown to your approved followers or the members of a group/challenge you join; and
- when you choose to export and share your logs, or where required by law.
We never sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
6. Exporting your data
You can export your weight, food and workout logs as CSV files any time from Settings → Export data, using your device's standard share sheet. Where the file goes is entirely your choice.
7. Deleting your data and account
You can request deletion at any time:
- In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account & data (immediate and permanent), or
- By email: request from your account's email to handrowcahyadi@gmail.com; we verify ownership and delete within 30 days.
Deletion runs on our server, so it completes reliably in a single step and never leaves your data stranded.
What is deleted: your account and authentication record; all weight, food, fasting, workout and cycle logs; custom foods, saved meals and meal-photo thumbnails; your personalization data; your public profile, @handle and profile-photo reference; every photo you uploaded to the community; your follow connections, group and challenge memberships, and your own posts, reactions, mentions and notifications.
What is kept: safety reports you filed and any moderation record on your account (retained only as long as needed to keep the community safe and meet legal obligations), and any messages or comments you posted inside a group or challenge (kept so other members' conversations stay intact, but no longer linked to a discoverable profile). Backups, if any, are purged on a rolling basis.
Step-by-step instructions: handrow.studio/pearly/delete-account.
8. Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, your data is removed as described in §7.
Guest accounts: because a guest (anonymous) account can only be reached from the device it was created on, we automatically and permanently delete any guest account — and all of its data — after 90 days of inactivity. Linking a Google account converts it to a normal account and removes this time limit.
9. Security
We rely on Google Firebase's infrastructure security and per-user Firestore security rules, and all data is encrypted in transit. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live (e.g. under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing. You can exercise most of these directly in the app, or contact us at handrowcahyadi@gmail.com.
11. Health disclaimer
Pearly provides general information and estimates (including calorie targets, BMI and fasting guidance) for informational purposes only. It is not medical advice and is not a substitute for professional healthcare. Talk to a qualified healthcare provider before starting any diet, fasting or exercise program — especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a medical condition, take medication, or have a history of disordered eating.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes are reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, by an in-app notice.
